The
company was founded in 1986,
the year
Luciano Lucchese
decided to devote himself full-time to his passion: making wine from
the
grapes grown by his father Silvio, and by
generations before him, in their estate in San Polo di Piave;
here,
their stock can be traced back to
1779,
as the recently reconstructed family tree unquestionably
demonstrates.
The
complete renovation of the vineyards
also took place in those years: the traditional
overhead wheel-spoke training (aka Bellussi) was gradually replaced
by new systems allowing for a greater density of vines per hectare,
and the cultivated surface was extended, reaching the 20
ha.
of today's estate.
Another
fundamental improvement was
the
change in the varieties of grapes cultivated:
the
number of
so-called international vines of
Bordeaux
origin – such as Merlot and Chardonnay – was reduced to make room
mainly for
traditional local white-wine
grapes, such as Pinot Grigio, Prosecco and
Manzoni.
These white wines – and the evolution in the company's production
processes – were what determined the company's success.
A selection of local grapes was also purchased and transformed using
the most modern wine-making techniques to meet the demands of a
market increasingly appreciative of the bubbly Prosecco Doc Treviso,
the fragrant Pinot Grigio and the native
Manzoni Bianco.
The latter, recently introduced, and noted afresh in the last few
years – along with
Raboso Piave Doc
and
Raboso Passito
– is a
primary source of satisfaction for the company
all the
year round: through tending directly to the vineyards, managing the
winery's activities and, above all, reinforcing its market presence
through national and international fairs, exhibitions and
wine-tasting events, Lucchese draws attention and appreciation to a
fragment of Treviso's history and culture,
invariably encountering the enthusiastic response of a public
attracted to rare and unusual products of outstanding quality.
It must
be noted that in 2008 the Company's former name “Az. Agr. Lucchese
Silvio & Figli” was modified to include the trademark
TenutaCapoest Lucchese:
“Capoest” is the abbreviation of “campo a est” [East-side field],
the name traditionally used to identify the property where the
winery and the owners' homes now stand. This modification was
introduced to avoid confusion with other products distributed in the
large-scale retail trade with the sole name “Lucchese”.
